Brief Church History
Fartown Christian Fellowship is the Pudsey branch of Struthers Memorial Church, and has its roots in the mid 1960’s. At that time, the late Mr Hugh Black visited the Bradford area of Yorkshire to minister and a number of people were drawn to the quality of Christian life and teaching which came through Mr Black.
As a result of this a group of Christians hungry for God began to meet in the home of a Christian family in Pudsey, West Yorkshire, resulting in a house conference in August 1970 at which Mr Black ministered. From that conference the Pudsey Church came into being, holding our first service on the first Sunday of September of that year as a small house church.
Within three years a delightful Sunday School building in an ideal location came to the market and ultimately was purchased. The building was not easily won. There was competition from industry and a shoe factory in particular, nevertheless we prayed about it in the name of the Lord and wonderfully, one day, out of the blue, the building was offered to us at a very reasonable price. We held our first service there in the Spring of 1974.
